The Home Page: I decided to make the home page the directory as that is the main feature.

The Articles page:  The articles page would be updated daily, three interesting/important/relevant news would be extracted from leading news sources and uploaded for students to read.

The Deals and Discounts page: I wanted to make the page visually appealing to students and fun to use. The images are website links to businesses with current offers and deals for students. you can sign up via the contact form to receive daily updates and offers on the go.

The Contacts page: A chance for students to recommend businesses for either the directory or the deals and discounts page, also to contact the team for another queries.  

An inside look at the directory: each link takes you to G
oogle maps and reviews, which will show you directions via car or public transport, and reviews.

Leading Student Discount site in the UK!

This site inspired me to add a discount section to my website. Also I believe that by offering discounts and information on deals, students would have more reason to visit my site and use the directory service.

Sites like this have become really popular due to the current financial situation students are facing, which is why leading students to discounts can be an effective way to attract students to the site as well as to help them enjoy student life without breaking the bank.

This is one off the leading websites for students in the UK, and is targeted at a wider audience not just London Students like my website. I think this website does a very good job in bringing students form all over the country together to give each other advice and share experiences.

The website also has an extensive directory for all sorts of businesses and for all UK Universities.

Creating a website using Wix.com

Wix is a free website available for the public to use to create their own sites for their businesses.
I was recommended Wix.com by one of my lecturers and it was very user friendly and fun to use.
I played around with the designs and gadgets to come up with the LondonStudentLink directory site, I wanted to make it easy to use in terms of  navigation through the site.

Story/ Content 

LondonStudentLink - is an online student directory created for students living and studying in London.
Its aim is to guide Students on saving money and making the most of London life.

The Website will offer information to London student on the best places to go and also the latest offers and discounts that are available. the site will have : Homepage which is the directory itself, a News page for any articles related to students, London, and Money, a Deals & Discounts page, to access the discounts and offers available from businesses for students, and lastly the contact page for anyone one who wishes to contact the team.



Why is this a good idea to do now?

• Online Journalism if growing and becoming even more accessible with a high number of students using smartphone's and tablets.
• The recession means money is tight, being clever with your money have never been more important, with a site that directs students to student friendly businesses and great deals and offers, it will allow them to enjoy London Student life without breaking the bank.
• This could also be beneficial to International students staying in London, research shows an increase of students choosing to study in London, with LondonStudetLink they could find what they are looking for in just a few clicks.

Online approach 

I decided to create my idea on a website format as I wanted LondonStudentLink directory to be a brand and websites are the best approach for online media brands and businesses. I could have chosen to do the directory on a blog, however I feel blogs appear less professional and more personal. Also in my opinion websites are more user friendly, I also feel that I have more options with website formats, in terms of features and layouts.

These sites deal with students in the whole of UK rather than just focusing on London, and also there does not seem to be an extensive directory, the sites include many other features like forums, games, and competitions.
